Seen it several times since I was about ten years old. I am now 34. Most recently about a month ago. I lived nearby. About twenty -five minutes away. Now I live about forty -five minutes a way.

When I was living in New York about 4 years ago roughly my roomie and I stopped in Amityville on our way back into the city from seeing "Lucky Stiff" (a musical) out on Long Island.
It was late and everyone in the area seemed to have been asleep, so we got out and walked up to the side walk. We were both hit with a really ominous feeling of "we shouldn't be here"...so we left. Then I went back to Amityville for a very innocent visit of the town...and got scolded by some locals for asking for directions. I was asking how to find the triangle neighborhood, but before I could get past "I need directions to..." they assumed I was going to say "the house" and flipped out at me. Ruuuuude! It left a bad taste in my mind for Amityville as a town. MerchBoi...

Well, most everyone knows I've seen the house. It's a house with a very bad rep, and unexplainable occurances.
Fear knocked...
Faith answered... No one was there. |

Over thirty years ago, shortly after the killings occured but prior to the Lutz family assuming residence.
Some of my mom's friends moved from Toledo, OH, to Long Island, we went to visit, saw the house, yada, yada, yada. |

I voted NO.
It is not on my Top 100 things to do in my life. Not not, or in the distant future. I say that because it is just a house, a structure. Anything of real significance is there that I can't get by listening to people who experienced events there anyway. I can see photographs and listen to interviews by individuals like George and Christopher, and all I need to do is ask. Going to the house itself now would not really be of any significance to me. Back in the 1970's I visited the Warren (the main exorcists at the Amityville incident) home with my girl friend and visited with them. While they were very nice people, their basement was set up like a cheap horror house, including the requirement that a flashlight was used to reach the basement (a modern home not following construction code for a light switch at the top of the stairs) for effect. They told us about a "haunted town", a site along the Applacian Trail in Connecticut that had the remains of foundations of a town that was supposed to have all sorts of scary happenings. Well, to make a long story short, two friends and I found that spot on the trail and the foundations, camped there, talked to boy scouts that frequented the area, and interviewed locals. Absolutely, normal spot. Animals behaving normally, in contrast to the Warren's claim. And the locals never heard of any hauntings or sightings at that location.
The Warrens were nice people, and I applaud their creativity. But I would not believe anything they said after visiting their home and investigating some of their claims. |
